Born in Rockford, Illinois in 1962, Ginger Lynn Allen (full name) went to California in 1982 to visit her ill grandfather. Following his death, she decided to stay but her new job as a record store manager just wasn't enough, so she answered an ad from a modeling agency. Because of her fresh-faced, "girl next door" looks, she was very quickly hired to do a layout for Penthouse and that would get attention from the booming adult film industry in 1983. In 1984 Ginger Lynn (she dropped the "Allen" for showbiz purposes but would later pick it back up) would make more than 30 adult films and be featured in many video compilations. 1985 would also be a huge year for her as she got her own video line from Vivid and starred in some classic XXX films like the original New Wave Hookers and Trashy Lady.

Friedman, Henenlotter and Vraney, now THAT'S SEXPLOITATION!

Director: Frank Henenlotter

Cast: David F. Friedman, Frank Henenlotter, Albert Cadabra, Gal Friday

Severin Films / All Region / Unrated / Aspect Ratio (various) / English Dolby Digital 2.0 / 136 minutes

Extras: Over 3 1/2 Hours of Sexploitation Shorts From The Something Weird Archives / Audio Commentary With Director Frank Henenlotter And Something Weird's Lisa Petrucci / Trailer

David F. Friedman has been called "The Mighty Monarch of Exploitation Film" and for very good reason. He began in the 1950s and hit his stride in the '60s producing what would become some of the most influential and classic horror, cult and exploitation films ever made. Some of his most famous credits are from his collaborations with long-time friend Herschell Gordon Lewis on such gore greats as Two Thousand Maniacs! and Blood Feast. He also produced some of Lewis' lesser known but no less awesome "roughies" that are considered to be the first of their kind like Scum of the Earth and The Defilers. Friedman would go on to work well into the '70s and had a hand in just about every exploitation sub-genre you can think of, even producing one of the most infamous Nazisploitation films of all time Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS under the pseudonym "Herman Traeger".

Director: Herschell Gordon Lewis

Cast: Sharon Matt, Antoinette Maynard, Forman Shane, Walter Camp

Vinegar Syndrome / Region Free / Unrated / 1.37:1 fullscreen / Mono / 240 minutes

Disc Extras: Original Theatrical Trailers / Extensive Liner Notes / Special Edition Lab Cards

Herschell Gordon Lewis is best known for his gory horror exploitation fodder from the '60s and '70s like Blood Feast and The Wizard of Gore. Super fans of Lewis know he's a kind of Renaissance man when it comes to films of the grimy grindhouse era. But horror isn't his only forte. Far from it. He's filmed anything from biker flicks, children's movies, comedies, and yes, even sex movies. If you've seen Herschell Gordon Lewis's films in any genre, you can pretty much cut and paste some softcore sex scenes into them, and you've got a good idea what "The Lost Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis" boxed set is all about. The shoddy productions values, cheesy dialogue, and questionable acting are intact, just add tits and ass and lots of moaning. Those of you who are mid-chubby, keep on reading.

Before becoming an underground shock horror icon, Jörg Buttgereit made short films spanning many genres like monsters, superheroes and even the punk music scene. His art was spurred on by political and social unrest in Germany during the late 1970s and on through the '80s concluding with the fall of the Berlin Wall. With expressive and tumultuous art rising up in protest, Buttgereit's short films –and later his features that we know so well – made an indelible mark on the film-scape of the time and in perpetuity. NEKRomantik (1987), Der Todesking (1990), NEKRomantik 2 (1991) and Schramm (1993) have all become notorious (and until recently, underground) films that pushed boundaries and tested gag reflexes. Now they are being released in a gorgeous Blu-ray box set from Cult Epics and it's time to revisit them all along with a ton of extra features.

British filmmaker Pete Walker is primarily known for his string of horror movies he did all through the 1970s. The Flesh and Blood Show, House of Whipcord and Frightmare are just a few of Walker's well known films that have garnered quite a following. Like other horror filmmakers, he started his career in the adult movie industry to get an injection of cash and to pay the bills. He didn't make XXX pornography, mind you, he shot 8mm "glamour loops" in the '50s and '60s before pornographic feature films would become chic. These loops would lead to a few British "sexploitation" flicks that the English call "Slap and Tickle", starting with a 40-minute short entitled For Men Only! and then the feature-length School for Sex. He would go on to make a few more like The Dirtiest Girl I Ever Met and Four Dimensions of Greta but let's take a look at the first couple.

Arrow Video: SHIVERS Comparison R-rated vs. Uncut

In 2014 Arrow Video released David Cronenberg's classic body horror Shivers in a regular Blu-ray version as well as Blu-ray steelbook. Shortly after it was revealed that they had inadvertently or otherwise used the American R-rated version of the film instead of the "uncut" version that runs about 25 seconds longer. That time is trimmed from nine different scenes and while not altering the plot, those moments add to the intensity of the scenes while also allowing for a little more bloodletting.

PIGS with a Taste for Human Flesh! A Woman with a Taste for Murder!

Director: Marc Lawrence

Cast: Toni Lawrence, Marc Lawrence, Jesse Vint, Catherine Ross

Vinegar Syndrome / All Region / Unrated / 1.85:1 widescreen (1080p) / DTS-HD mono / 81 minutes

Extras: Featurette w/ actress Toni Lawrence / Featurette w/ composer Charles Bernstein / Audio interview w/ cinematographer Glenn Roland / Promotional artwork gallery / Alternate ‘Exorcism’ opening sequence / Alternate ‘Daddy’s Girl’ opening sequence / Alternate ‘Daddy’s Girl’ ending sequence / PIGS original theatrical trailer / LOVE EXORCISM theatrical trailer / Reversible cover artwork by Chris Garofalo

Why would a respectable actor with over 200 roles who started in the 1930s suddenly decide to write, direct and star in a crazy, off-the-wall horror movie in the 1970s? That's exactly what veteran actor and director Marc Lawrence did when he made the bizarre horror flick Pigs aka Daddy's Deadly Darling. One can assume that maybe it was to give his daughter Toni Lawrence her first shot in the acting biz as she landed the lead and he played along side of her in the co-star role. She went on to do a few TV and small movie roles in the next 15 years–mostly notable for us, Thom Eberhart's 1983 Sole Survivor. He worked steadily up through the '90s and even a little into the new millennium. But really, Pigs? I'm still perplexed by this career and artistic detour, although he did star in the bat-shit crazy Night Train to Terror, so maybe this isn't too out of character.

Details: Mondo Macabro's SYMPTOMS Red Box Limited Edition

José Ramón Larraz's (Vampyres, Black Candles) film SYMPTOMS was highly praised at the Cannes Film Festival in 1974 before falling into obscurity shortly after. Mondo Macabro has now "found" this dark, atmospheric film that was once one of the UK’s top 75 “lost films” and rescued it from obscurity, giving it a brand new high-definition transfer from the original film negative. The initial release will be one of Mondo Macabro's very collectible Red Box Limited Editions (of 1000) that will contain an extra DVD featuring a 2-hour interview with Larraz and a booklet with an essay from Writer/Critic Samm Deighan.
