Fangoria Issue #293

Christ Alexander was one of my favorite horror scribes in my favorite horror magazine, Rue Morgue, for years before becoming editor of their biggest competition, the undisputed mainstream heavyweight horror mag, Fangoria. The current issue of Fango (#293) is Chris’s maiden journey helming the genre publication giant, taking the reins from long time editor (229 issues!) Anthony Timpone after twenty-plus years as head of the magazine. While Timpone will stick around Fango working in special projects, Alexander hints of big things to come under his regime like a new cover design and new monthly columns like “Trash Compactor”, “Sound Shock” and “Monster of the Month”.
CONTENTS THIS MONTH:
- ON SET: “THE DESCENT: PART 2” – Back into the caves for the eagerly awaited sequel with the original star, a new director and others.
- FEATURE: TOY FAIR TERRORS - Photos and comments on the hottest horrific items from this year’s event.

I, as someone not always a fan of Fangoria in the past, see renewed hope on the horizon for the legendary horror media monster. After reading #293 cover to cover I can see the new editor’s fingerprint of renewed vigor. The articles are tight, the layout is fantastic while staying with Fangoria’s classic look and the pictorials are bloody striking. In my favorite article, Lee Gambin sits down with some of the kids from the original A Nightmare on Elm Street series in his fantastic interview article “They Are Still His Children”. Gambin covers bases that I have long been curious about concerning one of the most beloved and long-running horror series. Aside from the ridiculous amount and content (Vonage, really?) of the advertisements, I am thrilled with Chris Alexander’s first issue and look forward to the gory future of Fangoria.
