Nikkatsu Erotic Films Collection Vol. 13 and 14

femaleteacherhuntingDVDNikkatsu Erotic Films Collection Vol. 13 and 14 are Female Teacher: Hunting and She Cat. The former is of the loosely-knitted-by-name-only “Female Teacher” series and the latter is a surprisingly complex (if not a little convoluted) film starring the busty and super sexy Ai Saotome.

Female Teacher: Hunting (Vol. 13) begins with a playful teen couple skinny dipping in a pool when, unknown to them, someone is setting it up to look like the boy had raped the girl. He is expelled from school by his sensei (teacher) and moves to the beach where he shacks up with his boss and his horny wife. His teacher also takes a little trip to the beach town to wait out his married lover’s wife. That sets the table for the two to run into each other and the drama of finding the truth. But when he is finally exonerated, the truth doesn’t exactly set him free. Nor does it mean his girlfriend or teacher are safe.

I remember checking out Cold Prey a few years ago simply because it was a Norwegian slasher movie. A lot of people seemed to really get a kick out of it, judging by the reviews. Me, I thought it was on the upside of average. It had moments of real suspense, solid cinematography, and high-end production values, but the first half was cheapened by the tired friends hanging out fluff. The good thing about Cold Prey II, the tired friends hanging out cliché is nixed. The rest of the movie, well… Continue reading

Screaming in High Heels: The Rise and Fall of the Scream Queen Era made me reconsider my criteria for what makes a scream queen. Being female, for starters. Duh. Second, you’ve got to be in several horror movies. Preferably cheaper, lower grade flicks that are on the sleazy side. But the third, and my newest piece of criteria, is owning a certain pride for being in these films. These ladies can’t hang their heads in shame. That’s not to say they can’t admit some of their lesser movies are pieces of crap. They can make fun of themselves, while reaching out to fans who remain undying in their appreciation for their work. Scream queens are happy to have done fans of horror-dom proud. I say Brinke Stevens, Michelle Bauer, and Linnea Quigley fit the bill. It’s about time they got a documentary. Considering this feature is only 63 minutes, it covers a whole of stuff, and very well I might add, because I had a blast watching every minute of it. Continue reading

A few weeks ago I got an email from director Michael Melamedoff concerning his new project The Exhibitionists. After checking out the trailer, I returned his email to let him know that, while the trailer looked excellent, I didn’t think it really fit in with the theme of Cinesploitation. I thought maybe it looked a little too cerebral and dramatic. We tend to dwell in the seedier, campier and more graphic basement of cinema and that’s how we like it. He decided to send over a screener anyway on the off-chance that I would write a few words about it and after seeing it, I am very glad he did. While not graphic in the physical sense, the level of real-life, emotional depravity is turned up to 11. Yes, it is a “cerebral” film that makes you think and has a message, but that is definitely not a bad thing as it doesn’t come off as preachy. Continue reading
