Cinesploitation’s Best of the Best 2010

Welcome to the end of 2010, a year that brought us a new decade and some of the best exploitation and horror goodies in recent memory. From DVD to my newest love, blu-ray, and even some badass theatrical releases, 2010 has inspired me to pick the Best of the Best –no, not the 1989 Eric Roberts martial arts cheese– but the vilest, sleaziest, goriest, tittiest (I just made that word up) and just plain badass genre gems of the year. Sit back and fill your Amazon Wish Lists with Cinesploitation’s Best of the Best 2010!
BEST NEO-NUNSPLOITATION
Richard Griffin’s Nun of That (Camp Motion Pictures) – From the guy who brought you such camp classics as Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon and Splatter Disco comes the most fun and hilariously offensive take on the nunsploitation genre I have ever seen. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON!)
BEST CONTEMPORARY “WOMEN IN PRISON” FLICK
River Rock Women’s Prison (Triangle Films) – This is not your daddy’s WIP film. This is what your daddy’s movie would look like if a cast and crew of women hell-bent on making the sub-genre as erotic as possible took over, full-on lesbian style! (PURCHASE FROM TRIANGLE FILMS!)
BEST SLEAZY MADNESS
Chad Ferrin’s Someone’s Knocking at the Door (Breaking Glass Pictures/Vicious Circle Films) – “A puzzle to be picked-at by psychedelic minds, which subtly explores the depths of the kind of disturbed, disaffected, and depression-prone drug-altered generation of young adults that exists in society today.” -Lacey (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON ON DVD OR BLU-RAY
!)
BEST UTTERLY DISTURBING ART-FILM
A Serbian Film (Contra Film) – Words cannot describe (unless you read my review of course) the shock I was in after seeing this movie. The shock not only comes from the content but the quality of filmmaking at work here. I very much look forward to the R1 DVD/Blu-ray release.
BEST GENRE DOCUMENTARY
Barbara Bell and Anna Lorentzon’s Graphic Sexual Horror (Synapse Films) – There were some great genre docs out this year but GSH grabbed me and shook me to my core. The beauty and horror of the often maligned S&M underworld was captured by Bell and Lorentzon. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON!)
BEST THEATRICAL HORROR RELEASE
Piranha 3D (Dimension Films) – Some of the most fun I have ever had at the theater. Gore, non-stop action and tits… lots of 3D TITS! (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON ON DVD OR BLU-RAY
!)
BEST OVERALL DVD RELEASE
Psychomania (Severin Films) – This British biker oddity just makes me happy to watch. It’s so cheesy and fun that you forget it’s supposed to be a horror film. Severin did this classic an amazing service with their transfer. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON!)
BEST BLU-RAY SLEAZE/BEST OVERALL BLU-RAY
Tinto Brass’ Salon Kitty (Blue Underground) – Not only is this one of the best nazisploitation, nay exploitation, nay-nay movies ever made, Blue Underground’s gorgeous high definition blu-ray transfer makes it the best blu-ray release of the year. (PURCHASE ON AMAZON!)
BEST BLU-RAY EROTICA
Radley Metzger’s Score (Cult Epics) – A beautifully shot, cheeky adult romp shot through the lens of one of erotic cinema’s most artistic directors. Cult Epic’s transfer makes this an amazing viewing on my 50″ plasma HDTV. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON ON DVD OR BLU-RAY
!)
BEST GRINDHOUSE ADULT FILMS
Shaun Costello Collection (Pink Flamingo Entertainment) – There are some low quality DVD-R copies of Costello’s films roaming around, but these high quality DVDs from Pink Flamingo flip my pervert switch. (PURCHASE FROM PINK FLAMINGO!)
BEST ADULT FILM RELEASE
Carter Stevens’ Teenage Twins Collection (After Hours Cinema) – This sinsational collection from one of retro-adult cinema’s great should be on any sleazehound’s DVD shelf. Stevens’ three best movies (in my opinion) all uncut for your pleasure! (PURCHASE FROM ALTERNATIVE CINEMA!)
BEST OVERALL ADULT FILM LINE
Video-X-Pix’s Platinum Elite Collection (Video-X-Pix) – This is the apex of adult home entertainment. These HD transfers of selected classic adult features are loaded with extras and look as good or maybe better than when they were originally shot. (PURCHASE FROM VIDEO-X-PIX!)
BEST GENRE BOOK
Nathaniel Thompson’s DVD Delirium Vol.4 (FAB Press) – How do you outdo the first three volumes of DVD Delirium? You don’t, you can only add to the magnificent library of books of home video releases from one of the world’s top experts. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON!)
BEST COMIC TPB/GRAPHIC NOVEL
Garth Ennis’ Crossed TPB Vol.1 (Avatar Press) – If you’re looking for vile, disturbing and explicit in your zombie-ish horror comics, look no further. Garth Ennis stepped up the *EYUCK!* with this completely insane story with disgustingly fantastic art from Jacen Burrows. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON!)
