Pink cinema and New Tokyo Decadence – The Slave star Rinako Hirasawa (who plays “Rina”) is well known in her native Japan and to Asian erotica fans alike as a “hardcore” porn star of around 40 movies. Often her films had themes of extreme fetish and sado/masochism (S&M). The Slave is based on the self-proclaimed pervert’s life experiences and her starring role has garnered critical acclaim. The poetic story and direction by Satô of this very explicit film is as gut wrenching as it is erotically charged.

Rina is a teenage masochist who, when not in high school, works at an S&M club to make extra money. She doesn’t like being a dominatrix, but it makes her good money and she is good at it because she knows what masochists like. She then decides to get a new job working in an office and her boss sees in her that she is a “pervert” and tells her that she is now his slave. He takes her to depths of pain and pleasure that she has never known and she battles with feelings of love, lust and pain for her new master and lover.

A co-worker falls for Rina not knowing that she is the boss’ “girl” but she just laughs to herself and knows that she cannot have a “normal” relationship when her master makes her so happy. While trying new ways to hurt and humiliate his slave, the master comes up with a great plan; make Rina seduce and fuck the poor guy who is in love with her while he watches. There is but one condition: she is not to have an orgasm. But in the throes of passion, she does and this really pisses him off and he fires her from her job and breaks off their master/slave relationship. Can Rina move on and leave that lifestyle behind or will her need to be dominated rule her life?

I don’t think this is a sequel to the pink art-house classic Tokyo Decadence, but more of a series continuation. Hirasawa as the cute, innocent looking sexual deviant “Rina” is not only incredibly sexy, but portrays the suffering, lustlorn (I just made that shit up) character like she was living it at that moment. The sadness, pleasure and confusion she is feeling at any given moment is felt through Satô’s lens. Speaking of sexy, there is a scene where Rina makes out with a prostitute – who I believe to be Yui (no last name kinda like Madonna, I guess) – who is smoking HOT. I need more of her in my movies.

This is a complete 180 from Pink Eiga’s first release, S&M Hunter. Where that is a cartoony – or manga in this case, I guess – and fun romp, The Slave is a dramatic and thought provoking insight into the world of sadomasochism. That is not to say that the pervs out there won’t have a good time, in fact this one is much more sexually explicit, almost to the point of hardcore status. I’m not so sure that there wasn’t some actual sex going on here. Aside from the realistic looking “money shots” there were some scenes that almost could not be faked. I mean there are only so many ways a chick can sit on your face buck-ass-naked, right? Right??
