IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have a 3D enabled Blu-ray player AND television in order to watch the 3D Blu-ray.

I am a big fan of the 2010 remake of Piranha 3D (review) because it was a lot of fun from beginning to end. Tits, gore, cool monster fish and more tits. So when Piranha 3DD was announced after the first one did so well at the box office, I was stoked. The rule of horror sequels is that you have to amp up the essentials by two but could there BE more tits, gore and cool monster fish in a movie than the first one? The answer is yes but at what point does it become tiresome? HAAAAAAAHAHAHA… sorry, it was hard to say that with a straight face. I mostly don’t care how vapid and nonexistent the plot is if there are enough bosoms and guts bobbing in the water. Good thing too because Piranha 3DD dove into the deep end of silliness with no floaties on.

The “story” has hot little Maddy and step dad Chet opening up a water park together near where the first movie took place. Chet –majority owner in the park– has made some decisions on his own and created a little more “adult friendly” place by hiring hot bimbos as bodyguards and even fencing in an all nude section (lucky for us, YAY!). He has also drilled a super deep well in order to fill the park which taps into an underground cavern that connects the surrounding lakes, including the lake containing the killer fish. Highjinks and mayhem ensue as Maddy and her geeky admirer try to stop the slaughter of innocent (and did I mention NAKED) victims. We, of course, run into some great cameos like Gary Busey and “The Hoff” who plays himself. Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as “Dr. Goodman” but in a smaller capacity.

The lazy river was never so much fun!

As I may have mentioned before, there is a shit load of nudity (mostly of the bOOby variety) and the gore is plentiful. What there is of a story is really just to link together the scenes of frolicking topless honeys and gruesome toothy fish attacks. It is as entertaining as shit but it almost crosses the line into Scary Movie full-on parody territory. It also reminded me of a what a slick, polished, big budget Troma movie might look like. Speaking of budget, did Dimension skimp on the CGI this time? I mean come on, the fish were barely one step above SyFy monster quality. There is a scene in which someone’s head gets lopped off and the ensuing CGI display was laughable at best. Piranha 3DD did have some funny lines though like my favorite, “Josh cut off his penis because something came out of my vagina!” Oh, silly Joshua…

There are a few worthwhile extras on the Blu-ray like “The Hofftastic World” and “Busey’s Bloopers” which is really just him being himself behind the scenes (re: crazy as fuck). The HD picture is pretty nice but the non-3D version looks weird during some of the obvious 3D scenes. Some of the gimmicks just don’t translate well. The movie itself is really only about 71 minutes long with the last 12 minutes (literally) being the credits mixed with bloopers and a parting shot with Hasselhoff. I have to admit, I was very disappointed that I couldn’t watch the 3D Blu-ray. I even still have my glasses that I stole from seeing Piranha 3D in the theater! In all, this is a short, entertaining and very fun movie to just veg out to. Tits, gore and monster fish… what else do you need?
